Thomas Chelbi was right when he said "war changed men" Here are 9 pictures of soldiers before, during and after the war

Photographs often speak louder than stories: by creating a time-lapse portrait series of soldiers before, after and during the war, Lalage Snow shows more about their psychological drama than their own words could have.

Titled "We are not dead," the portraits show an 8-month life span of British soldiers employed in Afghanistan, and the changes in their eventually weary faces are striking.

The British journalist, artist, and film producer, currently based in Afghanistan, describes that this project was directed at drawing attention away from the politics of war and from the growing body count of British soldiers wounded or killed.
